We've arrived!

Well, we arrived in Doha safely yesterday and it’s been pouring with rain from the second we set foot on the tarmac. I’m told this is the first rain Qatar’s had in about a year, so I’m thrilled to have been able to bring it over with me.

The ludicrously good treatment has started already, with a BMW and driver waiting for us at the airport,
a phenomenal apartment that’s twice the size of our London flat and an on site gym and spa that has to be seen to be believed. But it’s all so very plush that it’s set N and I on edge rather. I felt decidedly underdressed when I arrived from the plane in a tracksuit and trainers, I was worried they’d ask me to leave; and when we arrived at our apartment and cracked open a can of malted drink that we found in
the fridge, we spent an hour agonising over whether it would cost us the £8 listed on the mini bar price list*. We’re going to have to smarten up and learn the ropes quick.

I thought I had smartened up to be honest, but when I unpacked, it transpired that all the clothes I’d bought for my new job were several sizes too big. I have no idea how I managed that. Either I’ve shrunk two sizes in the last two weeks, or I was delirious when I bought them. But as a result I have nothing to wear – it took over an hour to cobble together an outfit for my first day of work today, I don’t have high hopes for tomorrow’s look. I’m going to have to start again from scratch, but seeing as my hotel is opposite a Debenhams, I don’t think that’s going to be too difficult...

*Luckily the first one is free. We won’t be having another one. It was gross anyway.
