Get married - honestly, it's great fun.

Well, that was simply the best day of my life. I loved every second of it. There’s so much to report, but I’m supposed to be packing for Qatar as we fly at 8am tomorrow morning, so I’d better do that first and report properly later. But a few highlights that stick in my mind:

  • The fantastic registrar, who made sure the ceremony was totally relaxed and great fun.
  • Ellie and Kath playing us in with their beautiful string duo.
  • The smiles from the people of Oxford as we had our photos taken around the town after the ceremony.
  • The funny funny speeches.
  • Walking into the reception hall and finding a friend who’d travelled all the way from Germany, balancing on a chair hooking fairy lights up with the end of a broom, while another two dozen wedding guests rushed around laying out buffet tables, scattering stars, unpacking crates of booze and generally working hard to make the party happen.
  • Tables full of people who’d never met eating delicious tagine together and chatting like old friends.
  • Our 5 year old nephew Kai dancing with his Mum with the biggest grin on his face I’ve ever seen.
  • A room full of friends and family dancing their socks off to the amazing band.
  • Arriving back at the hotel with my husband at nearly 3am, totally exhausted but in agreement that that was the happiest day of our lives.
And believe it or not, the first photos have already been blogged by our amazing photographer Eliza Claire.

  1. I've really enjoyed reading your blog. The photos are fabulous - dress seven was indeed an inspired choice - and I am so jealous that you got to have Eliza Claire as your photographer.

Hope Qatar is all you dream it will be.

  2. Thanks! we've just arrived. The hotel suite they've put us in is twice the size of our flat. Eliza is a total star - i got really lucky. x
